About 60 years ago, the people living in this area had the opportunity to study in a Sinhalese school in the nearby village of Weerapbokuna. Even though their mother tongue was Tamil, they had the opportunity to study only through Sinhala. In course of time, a Tamil section was established in the above mentioned Sinhala school and Tamil was taught there by a Tamil teacher. This happened during the year 1961. Before  language An awakening between 1961 and 1962 led people to educate their children in their own culture by setting up a school of their own in their village rather than sending their children to a Sinhalese school a mile away. This is the Muslim Maha Vidyalaya that has emerged today. In 1961, the people of this town were especially Janab V.M. Mustafa Boss, Janab S.L Ahmed Lebbai, Janab N.L Abdul Hameed, Janab C.L Seinul Abdeen, Janab A.L Seyyadhu Ibrahim, Janab S.L Kasim Lebbai, Janab A.L Mathtihsm (Abu Bakkar), Janab A.L Abdul Qader and some others. "Qatna" of his children at the house of Janab C.L Abdul Hameed earlier.
